Our martial arts classes offer students the opportunity to train in the areas of:
karatejutsu - empty hand techniques consisting of chibudi (vital point manipulations) and tuidi (joint seizing and locks)
kobujutsu - "old way" weapons including bo, tunfa, tanbo, sai, nunchaku, techu, and others
modern weapons - firearms, knife, baton
Each class consists of junbi undo (warmup exercises), hojo undo (supplemental conditioning exercises), chiku (breathing exercises), partner drills, kata (forms), and bunkai (application of techniques from forms). Everything is centered on self defense in the modern world and not sport karate.
Collegeville Dojo's martial arts curriculum is a composite system of fighting skills that includes self defense techniques consisting of punching, striking, kicking, and blocking techniques of karate; the throwing and joint locking techniques, and a variety of weapons (Bo, Sai, Tonfa, Kama, Knife, stick and Sword).
Classes consist of adults and teens (age 12 and up) with semi-private and small group classes available. Emphasis is on conditioning, kata (pre-arranged forms), bunkai, tuite, one-on-one drills, and various forms of sparring. There is little emphasis on sport karate.
The RSKKR provides cross training and educational opportunities in martial arts for Collegeville Dojo students with others schools from around the world. This association was formed to allow other schools and their students with a Seidokan connection to continue and advance their studies in Okinawan karate and kobudo in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. The association provides access to senior instructors and their teachings through seminars and invitational classes.
The Okinawan Seidokan system consists of Sensei Shian Toma's over 60 years of experience in the Shorin-ryu, Motobu-ryu, and Goju-ryu systems of traditional karate. Additional information on Seidokan and Sensei Toma can be seen at the Ryukoku Seidokan website.
